| 2 february - 23 february 2008 > VISCOSITY by Mark Erasmus
photo: darryl hebbes (2008) Viscosity has been conceived specifically for the Premises Gallery in terms of scale, conceptual intent and the introduction of three dimensional works. In this exhibition Erasmus elegantly balances his interests with image making and the chemistry of colour mixing through the arrangement of these 3 aspects. Viscosity asserts Erasmus’ ongoing fascination with the medium of paint and a commitment to honing his ability to control the medium in a liquid state within a field of seemingly rigid order. This, Erasmus’ second solo exhibition demonstrates a mastering of the processes of pigment composition, pouring and dripping control and the function of gravitational pull in the completion of each work. In the field of contemporary painting Erasmus’ work reveals an uncompromising approach to constructing perfection; the result of an intensive time based play between end result and refining the capabilities of his medium.
