> Quiet Revolution: SA Concluded by Richard Forbes

Serving as a working title for the past two years series of actions, workshops and installations, The Quiet Revolution will conclude its South African process in the presentation at the Premises. Having devised a series of sculptural spinning tops that serve as the mark making instrument on a copper etching plate, Richard Forbes has invited and engaged a range of audiences to participate in the collective construction of an image produced by spinning an etching needle on a copper plate. Having gone through 8 interactive audience processes to date (Ripple ABSA February, 2006 / ABSA exhibition journalists workshop / Artist Proof Studio workshop in collaboration Tim Foulds / St Stithiens Highschool /  Prince Albert Gallery, Karoo / The Topsy Foundation, July 2007) the audience attending the Premises opening will participate in the making of the 9th plate for the South African series. The exhibition at the Premises will consist of the eight framed etchings produced to date, a range of the sculpture spinning tops and more conceptual sculptural objects that inform the spinning top sculptures.
